United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on IGAD Regional Strategies on Preventing Violent Extremism

Violent Extremism – Kenya’s changes in the counter-terrorism edifice were the focus of a high-profile forum on “Developing a regional strategy for countering violent extremism in Eastern and Horn of Africa region” convened by the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and supported by UNDP and funded by the Government of Japan in Nairobi from August 8-10, 2016. Prof. Peter Kagwanja President and CEO of the Africa Policy Institute was the key resource person. He was pivotal in the development of the final “IGAD Regional Strategy for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism in Eastern Africa”. A key outcome was the formation of the IGAD Center of Excellence on Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) as part of the recommendation in 2017.
