Since 2015, the Center for Policy and Management has led Africa Policy Institute’s research, dialogue and training on public policy issues and management science. It offers high-caliber research, consultancy and advisory services to specialized agencies, ministries and programmes of governments, inter-governmental agencies, regional organizations, non-Governmental Organizations and development partners in crucial policy processes. The Center’s research, dialogue and training activities have focused on Strategy and planning, management and evaluation, innovation, development and Entrepreneurship policy, humanitarian diplomacy, political management and training in public security.
The API Centre for Strategic Studies is the Africa Policy Institute’s anchor for research and policy dialogue on diplomacy, strategic and international issues. The Center’s main areas of focus include Africa-West relations, Africa-China Relations and African relations with Regional/Emerging Powers. The Centre is also preparing to launch a peer-review journal, Africa Policy Review (APR). APR will be an interdisciplinary journal that publishes peer reviewed articles on a wide range of African issues focusing on public policy, politics, security and international relations.
This center champions API’s research and provided a platform for policy dialogue on natural resources and environmental issues especially in Africa. Far from being a boom, the discovery of natural resources such as oil, gas and water in many parts of Africa has been a bane, fueling conflicts and undermining development and environmental stability. Conflicts have complicated existing environmental challenges such as droughts, famines, climate change and poaching of wildlife and other resources. API, therefore, established the Center as a platform for sharing ideas and policy perspectives on the best way to manage natural resources and the environment.
The Tafiti Center for Security Policy leads the Africa Policy Institute’s research, training and provides a platform for policy dialogue on security threats. It has provided excellent research and consultancy services on policy processes particularly in the areas of terrorism, radicalization and violent extremism. Through its Africa Security Trends Series, it disseminates policy-relevant knowledge on security threats in Africa and globally. Its experts continue to play active role in regional and global research networks.
