Africa Policy Institute hosted a China-Africa Cooperation forum on Peace and Security. The focus of a seminar on “Investing in soft power capacity: China-Africa think tank cooperation” and was jointly convened by the Africa Policy Institute (API) and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) in Nairobi on March 10, 2017. This is part of the Memorandum of Understanding between API and CASS that was signed on the same day.
During this seminar, researchers were drawn from China and Africa to review their present collaboration and how to increase its impact in light of the major global issues faced by China and Africa. The event, fostering collaboration between Chinese and African think tanks, began in October 2012 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province and is intended to strengthen cooperation between the respective think tanks. The Chinese policy institute CASS was established in 1977. It currently has six academic divisions and more than 4,200 employees.
In further cooperation API was represented by President and CEO Prof. Peter Kagwanja during the 40th anniversary of the founding of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) in Beijing, capital of China, May 17, 2017. Incidentally, API is also celebrating the 10th Anniversary of its founding this year.
