Corrupting Power-Sharing

 

 

CENTRAL & SOUTHERN AFRICA

 

API’s operations in the Central and Southern Africa region focus on core policy issues in the following countries and regional economic communities: 

Angola:           Monitoring governance of resources, post-conflict peace-building, including transition to democracy.

Democratic Republic of Congo: Conflict in parts of Eastern Congo and its regional dimensions, role of resources in post-conflict reconstruction.  

Madagascar:              Research and monitoring the recent crisis and on-going negotiations, the role of the scramble for resources. 

South Africa:    Research on role in peace-making in Zimbabwe and other parts of Africa, evolving foreign policy, role in building the capacity of regional organizations, women in the militaries, promoting south-south cooperation and global governance. 

Swaziland:       Monitoring the struggle for democracy.

Zambia:        Monitoring and research on elections and constitutional reforms.

Zimbabwe.    Monitoring and research on power-sharing and violence; and ethnicity, land and conflict.

 

     Regional Economic Communities (RECs)

    SADC: Monitoring and research on the          Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) has focused on the role of women in the military, the scramble for Africa’s resources and on a partnership with the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) on Regional Economic Communities in Africa: Focus on EAC.

ECCAS: API is undertaking a study on the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) with the support of Trust Africa.     

 

 

 The API operations in the region are coordinated from its offices in Pretoria, South Africa
