WEST AND NORTH AFRICA

Currently API projects in the West and North Africa region are very few, focusing mainly on Cote d’Ivoire and Nigeria. The specific issues for research and monitoring in the region include resources and identity conflict in Cote d’Ivoire; and the challenge of democracy and governance, youth and violence and regional power politics in Nigeria.

Regional Issues 

More broadly, API is monitoring developments in the infrastructure of the trans-Saharan counter-terrorism; the Western Sahara crisis and the role of regional Economic communities such as the Economic Community of the West African States (ECOWAS) and the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU).   

Although the API has no formal offices in the region, its work is carried out through expert networks, and linkages with likeminded organizations.  This is the frontier for expansion in the future.
