cropped-Logo-October-400.pngAfrica Policy and Leadership Institute (API) is an independent, not-for-profit pan-African think tank, founded in 2007 by a wide variety of African think tank scholars. In the same year, it was registered in South Africa and operates in Kenya, Uganda and Sudan.

Africa Policy and Leadership Institute (API) conducts policy-relevant research to develop solutions to public policy challenges to help create a peaceful, secure and prosperous Africa and the world at large. API’s work is therefore geared towards providing policy-relevant research and analysis for Africa’s solutions in security, governance and strategic issues.

API has extensive work experience in the Africa region where it provides technical and advisory support to governments, civil societies, as well as regional and international organizations.

 

VISION– to be the leading think tank in generating and sharing knowledge, policy relevant research and analysis and expertise on governance, strategic and security issues in Africa and the World.

MISSION – to conduct in-depth policy research that contributes towards policy solutions in Africa on governance, strategy and security sectors though partnership platforms and advocacy.

MANDATE -  is to support stable and meaningful change and development through providing policy research, analysis and advice to those who shape, influence and execute policies on reforms in governance, strategic and security areas.

API Core Areas of Specialization

Policy Research & Analysis

API has significant international research experience in the areas of security, governance, emerging powers and strategic futures in Africa from an evidence-based perspective. Through research, API develops public policy solutions to  challenges faced by Africa in security, governance and strategic issues.

Capacity Building & Training

Our work is based on the principle of participation, which involves sharing knowledge with our clients and impacting skills, through training workshops, conferences and seminars on research and policy issues. API also maintains close linkages with expert academic facilitators from various areas of specialization.

Policy Advocacy & Dialogue

API has a consistent and coherent communication and advocacy strategy, to deliver its core message and contribution to the policy making process, sharing knowledge to support policy processes in governance, and strategy and security with local, regional and global policymakers and decision makers.

Networking & Partnerships

API has fostered strategic partnerships with national governments, regional and international decision-making agencies, civil society organizations (CSOs) and the private sector to provide relevant research that influences policy decisions and to guide action by governments, regional and international bodies.

Corporate Social Responsibility

 1. Contribution to Murang'a County Initiative's (MCI) Scholarship Programme for Gifted Secondary School kids from poor families. The Scholarship Scheme, with it Patron as the First Lady, Margaret Kenyatta, has benefited nearly two hundred students since 2011. 

2. School adoption: API has adopted two primary schools where it is providing a variety of support to improve performance.
